Not enough memory - memory not available |
32-bit Winsteps versions (4.8 and earlier) can access up to 1.8GB of RAM memory for data and computations. If there is not sufficient memory available, Winsteps will not produce the relevant Table or Output File. For some files, Winsteps will use disk instead of RAM memory when required.
For instance, Winsteps can usually analyze up to 2,850 items and 100,000 persons in Table 23.
Winsteps can access up to 2.8GB or 3.8GB of RAM if you give permission through Windows. To do this,
Enable the Windows IncreaseUserVa function:
Note: this may impact other software and Windows functions, such as Hibernation
Right-click on the Command Prompt icon in the Accessories program group of the Start menu.
Click Run as Administrator.
At the command prompt, enter:
for computers with 4GB RAM
bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072
for computers with 8GB RAM or more
bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 4096
Restart the computer.
Then Winsteps will be able to access 2.8GB/3.8GB RAM rather than 1.8GB RAM, allowing up to 4,000 items and 100,000 persons.
To disable the IncreaseUserVa function:
Right-click on the Command Prompt icon in the Accessories program group of the Start menu. Click Run as Administrator.
At the command prompt, enter:
bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa
Restart the computer.
If "memory not available" is reported for a particular Winsteps function, then please contact mike@winsteps.com for a version of Winsteps which uses disk instead of memory for that feature.
64-bit Winsteps versions (5.0 and later): if "memory not available" is reported for a particular Winsteps function, then please contact mike@winsteps.com
