Example 18: Maximum size dataset |
This demonstrates the maximum data set size which Winsteps can analyze: 9,999,999 persons (rows) and 64,000 items (columns). Here, 20MB responses. Maximum with this version of Winsteps is 2GB observed responses out of 640GB possible responses. Please email mike@winsteps.com if you need larger capacity.
; This control file is EXAM18.TXT
; 9,999,999 persons and 64,000 items: uses 160GB temporary disk storage
; this analysis takes 9+ hours
TITLE='Example 18: Demonstration of maximum size dataset in outline'
ITEM1=11 | ; Responses start in column 11 |
NI=64000 | ; maximum number of items |
NAME1=1 | ; start of person label |
NAMELENGTH = 10 ; length of person label
CODES=01 | ; dichotomous data |
; FOR LARGE DATA SETS
CMLE=No | ; CMLE=Yes only works to about NI=300 items. Results of CMLE the same as JMLE from about NI=100 items |
SUBSETS=No | ; only check for subsets once, if in doubt |
DISTRACTORS=No | ; do distractors only in the final analysis run |
MPROX=1 | ; minimum PROX iterations |
CONVERGE=B | ; set reasonable convergence limits |
RCONV=0.1 | ; this maximum residual is probably much too small - use Ctrl+F to stop JMLE iterations |
LCONV=0.01 | ; set at smallest visible logit change |
; ESTMULT= | ; set this from the Diagnosis menu if changes in estimates are too small at each iteration |
; Exam18.txt dataset is the outline of a 9,999,999 persons x 64,000 items dataset
; Exam18.txt has 20MB non-missing observations
